Obituary of Leo E Genung

Leo E. Genung of Vestal Leo E. Genung, 84, of Vestal passed away Wednesday September 15, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was predeacesed by his wife of 58 years, Doris, in October 2004, and a grandson Philip Rafferty in September 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Jane (Philip) Rafferty, of Pine City, NY; a son, Leo James (Beverly) Genung of Booneville, NY; grandchildren, Kathleen Oplinger, Christine (Nick) Andretta, Rebecca (Joel) Parsons Tara (Jason) Packer, Justin Sherwood; great-grandaughters, Kristen Oplinger and Annabella Parsons. Leo was born January 19, 1926 in Union City, PA. He married Doris Hawkins on May 29, 1946 in Hornell, NY. He retired from the Dale Carnegie Institute after many years of service. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII Stationed at Seal Beach, CA. He was active in Boy Scouts as a leader for many years. He loved the campouts and special events he would be in charge of. Gardening was his passion; he would spend endless hours with his flowers. The gardens were beautiful. Leo and Farmer Brown were great friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 1PM from the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home Inc 765 Main St, Vestal. The Rev. Mary Ricketts, Co-Pastor of the Vestal United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Saturday from 11AM until service time at 1PM.
