Obituary of D. William Stuempfle

D. William Stuempfle D. William Stuempfle, 89, of Johnson City, died Friday, November 15, 2013, at Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, David W. and Millicent Stuempfle; and his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia. He is survived by his son, Michael Stuempfle; and his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jack Palmer II; grandchildren, Dr. Jack P. (Dana) Palmer III and Dr. Christopher Palmer. William was born in Williamsport, PA and graduated from Williamsport High School. He attended Penn State University and graduated from Bucknell University. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served on the USS J.P. Kennedy and graduated from the Navy V-12 program through Bucknell University and the Midshipman School through Columbia University. He was an employee of Hamilton Watch Company as a production planner and IBM Corp in Owego, retiring in 1984, where he served as an Engineer at both IBM Endicott and Owego. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Endicott, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Board of Directors and President for 4 years, Boy Scout Troop, and chairman of the House Committee and Church and Society Committee. He organized the SOS Shelter and Operation Make the Grade, organized the Endicott Senior Housing Project, and was a trustee of Riverhurst Cemetery Association. William loved to fly fish, hunt, read, and build/fix anything. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Grant and Monroe St. in Endicott. The Rev. Timothy and Janice Devine will co-officiate. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at the church Friday morning from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. He was a loving, devoted husband and father, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church, 29 Grant Ave, Endicott, NY 13760 or to the charity of ones choice
