Janice M. Gilroy
Janice M. Gilroy, 87, of Vestal, NY passed away on December 10, 2013 with her daughter by her side. She is predeceased by her parents, Jane and Joseph Judge; her husband of 48 years, Charles Gilroy; brothers, Thomas and Joseph Judge; and nieces, Sherry, Bridgette and Marcia. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Nowak; grandsons, David and John Nowak; brother and sister-in-law, John and Inge Judge; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Major Barnett; sister-in-law, Shirley Judge, sister-in-law, Phyllis Jones and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Janice was born in Carbondale, PA to a proud Irish family. She worked for Ansco Corp. as a research assistant in charge of developing films for the military during WWII. She loved horses. Janice and her husband, Gil, raised Quarter Horses for many years. Janice served as the Secretary to the American Quarter Horse Association. She was a member of the Vestal Senior Citizens Center and she enjoyed many bus trips with her friends Betty, Barb and Mary. Janice was a very loving and devoted wife and mother and she had a very special place in her heart for her grandsons, David and John. She was a very strong woman with a sweet heart and keen sense of humor. Janice had a beautiful dramatic soprano voice and loved classical, 1940's and Irish music. Janice will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford for their exceptional care of Janice. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 16th from 8:30-9:30 a.m at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City. Expressions of sympathy in honor of Janice may be made to the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford, NY.
