Obituary of Edwin E. Colwell

Edwin Earl Colwell Edwin Earl Colwell, 93, of Apalachin, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 18, 2014. He was born on August 12, 1920 in Chemung, NY. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Frank & Edna Colwell; his first wife, Ruth E. (Coleman); infant son; grandson, and six sisters. Ed is survived by his wife, Ruth M. (Wiercinski) Colwell and his children, Richard (Carol) Colwell of Nichols, NY, Jeanette (John) Overpeck of Canton, PA, Cynthia (Warren) Dittfield of Salisbury, MD, Mike (Leslie) Wiercinski of Brookville, MD, Mary Anne (Bruce) Berkley of Camp Hill, PA, John (Beth) Wiercinski of Springboro, OH, Tom (Margie) Wiercinski of The Woodlands, TX, Jerry Wiercinski of Indianapolis, IN, Mark Wiercinski of Apalachin, NY and Maureen (Mark) Rothwell of Binghamton, NY, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed was a farmer in the Ulster Pennsylvania area from 1938-1968 and retired from Owego Heat Treat of Apalachin after many years of service. He enjoyed his retirement with hunting, fishing and spending time at Sandy Pond with family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Lourdes Hospice for their thoughtful and kind care they have given Ed during his illness. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 6519 Rte. 434, Apalachin. There will be another hour of calling at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Margret Mary's Church, 1110 Pennsylvania Avenue, Apalachin, until 11:00 a.m., where at that time a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. William Moorby. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Ed may be made to the Apalachin Fire Dept. Emergency Squad, PO Box 572, Apalachin, NY 13732.
