Obituary of Velma Gerlock
Velma (Muransky) Gerlock, loving wife, mother, Gram, Ba Ba and VaVa Voom, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, John (1971); her father and mother, Martin and Ann Muransky; a brother, William; sisters, Anna Bills and Mary Meade. Velma is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Patty (Bob) Whitbeck and Mary Ellen (Dominic) Slama; grandchildren, Kevin and Lori Barrett and Kelly and Fran Heatherman; great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Jordan Gallagher, Brittany, Steffany and Devin Barrett and Ashley and Kailey Heatherman. She is also survived by a special niece, Barbara Duran and many other nieces, nephews and friends. She was employed by Ansco Corp for several years and resigned to tend to her family. Velma loved to knit and crochet. She made afghans and baby blankets for many a newborn. She was a wonderful cook, especially her Slovak dishes. She was an avid puzzler until she was robbed of her eyesight due to Macular Degeneration. Velma was a lifelong member of SS Cyril and Methodius Church. Special thanks to Kathryn Erickson, Dr. Kennedy and Dr. Crum. Thank you to all the staff at Willow Point for accompanying us on our journey. Special thanks to North Lower Level. You have all been like family to us and we love you all. You are Angels. A big thank you to Michael Cucci and Deacon Dale for their weekly visits and cheery conversations. Per mom's wishes, she was cremated. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at SS Cyril and Methodius Church, 148 Clinton St., Binghamton. The family will receive friends at SS Cyril and Methodius Church on Thursday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Burial will be at a later date. Mom, you are now resting in peace.
