Obituary of George J. Keyes
George J. Keyes died peacefully at age 89, after a brief stay at the Wilson Medical Center. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret D. Keyes; parents, John and Katherine Kluchka; brothers, John and Michael Kluchka; sisters, Marie Jackson and Ann Nemeth. He is survived by his son, Robert (Ann) Keyes, Webster, NY; daughter, Jean (Fred) Sebesta, Troy, NY; grandchildren, Erin Keyes, Malden, MA; and Sarah Keyes, Rochester, New York; also several nieces and nephews. George was a retired USAF Lt. Col. He was a pilot with the 101st Airborne who flew over 100 combat missions during WWII including D Day. He compiled over 30 years of service including post WWII reserve time. He was a member of Owego American Legion Tioga Post 401 and VFW Glenn A. Warner Post 1371. George was a graduate of Clarkson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by IBM and was a member of the Quarter Century club. He also coached Youth baseball with the IBM Athletic Dept. George was also a member of the Tioga County Sheriff's Dept. The family thanks the staff at Castle Gardens/Keepsake Village for their excellent care for the last two years. George sends a special salute to his friend, Hugh Hogan. We would also like to thank the staff on the 4th floor of Wilson's North Tower for their recent compassionate care.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made to Castle Gardens, Tioga County Law Enforcement Association, American Legion or VFW.
