Obituary of Colleen A. (O'Brien) Borne

Colleen A. (O'Brien) Borne, a resident of Vestal, NY,passed away on June 8, 2007 while surrounded by her family. The daughter of William J. and Estelle Komonchak O'Brien, who predeceased her. Colleen was born on July 25, 1957, was raised in Cranford, NJ and graduated from Cranford High School in 1975. She graduated from the Robert Morris Reporting School. Colleen is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Bill Borne and her adoring children, Christopher and Melissa. She is also survived by her stepmother, Mary O'Brien; her seven brothers and sisters and their spouses, Michael and Donna O'Brien, Patricia O'Brien and Vassos Hadzilicos, James and Kathleen O'Brien, Barbara and Denis Carter, Katherine Andrews, Joseph and Mary O'Brien, Robert and Mattie O'Brien, mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and William Borne; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy (Borne) and William Viet; a very large family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many close friends, especially Barbara Mullen. Colleen was a loving wife to Bill and a very devoted mother to her children. She enjoyed daily walks with her dog, Gypsy, swimming at the YWCA, going to the beach, hiking and travel. She was a passionate quilter, providing many of her friends and loved ones with her beautiful creations. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Super Vestal Soccer Mom, VestalPTA Officer, Volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Hospice. Colleen was a Certified Court Stenographer, employed for 25 years by the NY State Workers' Compensation Board. She will be missed by many of the people whose lives she touched, especially her co-workers at the comp board, the Vestal community, and her many friends. She loved life and courageously battled cancer with the loving support ofher husband, children, family and friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 11th, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 155 Main St., Johnson City, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local food pantry, CHOW, 3 Otseningo Street, Binghamton, NY 13903 in the name of Colleen Borne.
