THE LAST IRON MANRobert D. Haskell, 96, Entered Heaven on Sunday, April 13, 2008U-Es 1930 IRON MEN This 1930 Union-Endicott High School eleven, often called one of the best, if not the best, team ever produced by U-E, was the Southern Tier League Champions with an 8-0 season under veteran coach Ty Cobb. Cobb called the eleven (underlined names) his eleven iron men. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Crooks) Haskell and their daughter, Beverly Nurek; a brother, John and sister, Anna Baylor. He is survived by his son, Robert E. Haskell; six grandchildren, Robert D. Haskell II (Rene), Laurie Haskell, James Blakeney (Debbie), Jesse Haskell (Brenda), Jill Blakeney, Kevin Blakeney; and eight great-grandchildren. Robert was a member of Gods church, and an IBM retiree. Chief, so nicknamed by Ty Cobb, was also a champion pool player, baseball standout and an avid golfer with two holes-in-one. No calling hours-graveside services for the immediate family.
