Obituary of Fred L. Hajny

Hajny, Fred L.Fred L. Hajny, 81, of Vestal, passed away at home with his family on August 18, 2014. He is predeceased by his parents, Andy and Martha Hajny; brother, James Hajny. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jane Ellen (Arnold) Hajny; son, John and special friend, Tiina Paula Harju; daughter, Susan and grandson Michael Bautista; brother, Frank (Loretta) Hajny; and several nieces and nephews. Fred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he then attended Ball State University and graduated from Purdue University in 1961 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by IBM for 30 years, at Glendale, the McLean Building and Owego. An avid reader and a lifelong learner, he had a natural fascination for how things worked. He enjoyed antique cars, square dancing, and in retirement developed a passion for restoring vintage bicycles. He was devoted to his family throughout his life and loved the beauty of the Twin Tiers area. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 765 Main Street, Vestal, with Pastor David Schramm officiating. The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
