Obituary of Frances R. Keegan

Frances Rose Keegan passed away on Sunday October 11, 2015 at The Hill Top United Methodist Nursing Home in Johnson City. Frances was formerly from Endicott. Frances was born in Weissport, PA on May 25, 1922 to Edward & Edith Cossman. She was predeceased by her son Kevin James Keegan and her husband Thomas Daniel Keegan and her two sisters and their husbands. Edith Marie and her husband Earl Kunkle and Rita and her husband Raymond Zanders. She is survived by her sister Patricia and her husband Barton Fritzinger of Lehighton, PA and her children, Thomas and his wife Dawn Keegan and her daughter Frances and her husband Peter Sheridan and her son Edward and his wife Susan Keegan. Also by her three granddaughters, Wendy Sue Keegan, Colleene and her husband Tony Little, and Claire Sheridan. Also, two great granddaughters, April and Autumn Little, along with many nieces and nephews. Frances was a WW II veteran having enlisted in the Navy after completing training at USN Training schools in Bronx, NY and Cedar Falls, IA. She received the rank of Yeoman Second Class. She was a wave stationed in Norfolk, VA where she met her husband Thomas Keegan, who was a Chief Gunnery Officer on the destroyer, Hilary P Jones (DD 427). Mom always said that she was a mom and wife first, but as her family grew she became active in Real Estate. She sold many homes and business and became friends with many of the people she helped selling or buying their homes or businesses. Many of these people became friends of hers and her family.She was and a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church involved in the Alter and Rosary Society and assisted with the church's weekly newsletter. She was also involved in the SUNY Binghamton Elder Education, taking classes and going on trips. A truly great joy and passion of Frances was quilting and she loved her time and her friends with the Valley Quilters of Newark Valley and all their projects and outings. Frances was a mom to all, not just her immediate family, but her extended family. Her friends and neighbors could all say that she was there whenever they needed help or just someone to talk with. Weather it was a chocolate chip cookie or a warm quilt or both Frances loved to help and share with others. Mom and Dad both were very talented and shared many interests. One of these interests was duck decoys. Dad would carve and Mom would paint them. They both spent many hours sharing this passion. They both enjoyed traveling and would often just pick up and go. After Dad passed Mom continued to travel and would always come home with pictures and many great stories of her travels. Whether it was with a group or driving herself she was always ready to travel. Mom's hero was Amelia Earhart and flying and travel always excited her and made her happy.A memorial service will be Held at Saint Peters and Paul's Catholic Church in Lehighton, PA on Saturday October 17th at 10:00Am followed by a Christian mass and burial in Saint Peters and Paul's Cemetery.
