Obituary of John Tomasky
John Tomasky was born on November 17, 1935 in Simpson, Pennsylvania to John and Anna Tomasky (Kolcun). John shared childhood memories that included accompanying his father at work in the PA coal mines. At a young age, John's family, including his younger brother, Thomas, moved to Binghamton where he attended and graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1953. Soon after, John became employed at IBM in Endicott, NY where he advanced to administrative and managerial positions. At the same time, John served as an Army Reservist. John met Marilyn (Gelatt) at IBM where she was also employed. They were married on September 27, 1958 and became the proud parents of their only daughter born to them in 1962. John adored his daughter, Tamara Lynn (Yard) and supported her through many years of dance classes as well as her 29 years as the owner and instructor at The Tamara Lynn School of Dance in Tully, NY. John and was best known for his passion for food, cars and, most of all, the St. Lawrence River along which he and some of his friends established LawrenceView Seasonal Park in Clayton, NY. Upon his retirement from office at Campground Owners of New York (CONY), John was honored as the organization's longest serving Director. Having recently returned home following hospitalization at the Cleveland Clinic cardiac unit and local nursing facilities for post-surgical care, John died peacefully at home on Friday, May 13, 2016. It is comforting to know that John achieved his wish to be home with his loving wife and that he passed away in his favorite chair while talking to a good friend. John is survived by his wife of 58 years Marilyn Elaine (Gelatt) Tomasky, his daughter and son in law, Tamara Lynn (Tomasky) and Kevin Yard of Tully, NY, a brother and sister in law, Thomas and Rae Tomasky of Maine, NY, and his Aunt Daisy Blatcher of Binghamton, NY. John will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends that he loved. A funeral service will be held on Monday May 16, at 10 a.m. at the Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Blvd., Endwell, with Pastor Mark Kimpland officiating. Private burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. The family will receive friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 E. Main St. Endicott, on Sunday May 15, from 4 to 6 p.m.
