Obituary of Lorraine Kodey
Lorraine Eagle Kodey, 93, passed away December 23, 2016. She was raised in Shawnee, OK and worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. during WWII. She lived through the dustbowl, the depression, and WWII. It was the war that brought her future husband to Oklahoma. After serving in the South Pacific, Stan was enrolled in pilot's training in OK. They met on a blind date, married 3 months later and remained married for 61 years. After the war, they moved to Endwell, NY and she lived in the same house until health issues forced her to move to a retirement home. Although Lorraine lived most of her life in New York, she cherished her Oklahoma roots and loved to reminisce about her life there. Lorraine was a warm hearted loving person. She loved cooking and was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. In her later years she took up quilting and made many beautiful museum quality quilts, all stitched by hand. She was an avid reader. She loved newspapers and read her paper cover to cover every day. Most of all she loved her family. Nothing could light up her face more than seeing a child come through the door.
She leaves behind her six children (and their spouses): Tom (and Lynne) Kodey of Port Orange, FL; Nancy (and Steve) Goodspeed of Strafford, NH; Mary (and Joe) Woeppel of Syracuse, NY; Rose (and Dale) Snyder of Pembroke Pines, FL; David (and Renee) Kodey of Thornton, CO; and Susan Slavetskas of Strafford, NH. She leaves twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, including Tawana Sue Prescott of Oklahoma City. She was predeceased by her husband Stan, her son-in-law Michael Slavetskas, her parents, Guy and Ida Eagle and by her two sisters, Marie Eagle Loftis and Viola Eagle Prescott. Lorraine had a kind soul and a generous heart. She will be forever remembered and loved.
