Obituary of Alma Marie Wells

Alma Marie (Cheeseman) Wells, 95, of Vestal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Fred P. Wells; parents, Edgar and Winifred Cheeseman; sisters, Ruth, Mary, and Anna; brothers, Edgar and Albert; and infant brother, Bruce. Alma is survived by her two sons, Michael (Wanda) Wells, Wesley Chapel, FL and Alan (Venus) Wells, Hurley, NY; grandchildren, Preston, Matthew and Robert (Kim) Wells; great-grandchildren, Sheila, Robert and Christopher; step-grandchildren, Molly and Michael; and sisters, Edna, Sara and Vera. After graduation from Brooklyn Methodist Hospital as a Registered Nurse, Alma worked as an operating room nurse in Brooklyn during WWII caring for returning soldiers and later as a nurse caring for Tuberculosis patients in Canton, NY. After raising her sons, Alma returned to nursing and retired after 20 years of compassionate and dedicated service from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Alma was an active member at the Vestal United Methodist Church and their quilting group where she accumulated over 2,500 volunteer hours. The family would like to express their appreciation to John and Bonnie Russell, Elwood and Donna Graham, and George and Eloise Canfield for the friendship and support they have given to Alma over the years. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 765 Main St., Vestal. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery, Vestal immediately following the service.
