Obituary of Nan Valencia
Nan Scovell Valencia, 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 3,2017 at home surrounded by family. She was born in Springville, Pa on August 29,1931. She was daughter of the late Alberta and Raymond Strickland. She was predeceased by her first husband Glenn(Bucky) Scovell, her siblings, Boyd and Kenneth Strickland, Lena Lewis, and her granddaughter Erika Pease. She is survived by her husband of 22 years the Reverend Jose L. Valencia, her children Brad (Jeanne) Scovell, Craig (Suzanne) Scovell, and Cathy Pease. Her grandchildren Anthony and Kimberly Scovell, Casey and Corey Scovell, Matt(Hanna) Pease and Emily(Mark) Dennett. And her great grandchildren Molly, Samuel and Andrew Dennett. She is also survived by Jose's children, Melanie and Jose Valencia and his grandchildren. Sister and Brother-in-law Ruthie and Gary Ruffhead. Nan was a first grade teacher for over 35 years at Maine-Endwell Schools including teaching a year in Venezuela. She loved teaching the hundreds of students she had over the years the joy of reading. She truly cared about all the students she had over the years. She was involved in many charitable activities over her lifetime through her church and masonic and shrine organizations. She served as Worthy Matron of Round Hill Chapter #104 Order of the Eastern Star, Royal Matron of Queen May Court @106 Order of the Amaranth, and Queen of Zuleika Temple #9 Daughters of the Nile. She was an active member of the Endicott and Endwell Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 10 AM from the Endwell United Methodist Church,3301 Watson Blvd, Endwell. The Rev. Mark Kimpland Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home LLC,300 East Main St, Endicott Wednesday from 5-7PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Shriners Crippled Hospital, or the Endwell Methodist Church.
