Obituary of Gerald Smith

Gerald D. Smith (Jerry), 82, of Endicott NY, passed away on February 4, 2018, at Ideal Senior Living Center, where he has resided for the last four years. Jerry was a graduate of UEHS, Class of 1953, and was employed by IBM for 35 years. He served in the US Army for 2 years (1954-1956). Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Mildred Smith of Church Street in Endicott. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa (Carlini) Smith; his four children, Douglas (Galen) Smith of Apex NC, Karen (Craig) Williams of Endicott NY, Dennis (Linda) Smith of Dunlap IL, and Kristin Smith of Burbank CA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mallory (Jon) Lidaka, Chad Williams, Nicholas Smith, Jessica Smith, Taylor Smith, Tanner Smith, and one great-granddaughter, Addison Lidaka. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Leon (Janice) Smith of Mechanicsburg PA. Jerry was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club and American Legion Post 1700. He enjoyed golf and bowling and excelled at both of them. After retirement, he enjoyed taking daily walks in the area with occasional stops at the local bars. He was one of the genuine nice guys and will be missed. Much gratitude to all of the staff of Rose Court (all three shifts) for their care and compassion in taking care of Jerry and his family. Special thanks to Denise, Janelle, Melanie and Carol S. (former nurse-2nd shift). Alzheimer's took away so many years of the Jerry we knew and loved and are asking that any donations be sent to the Alzheimer Association to help find a cure. A funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 E. Main St., Endicott. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
