Obituary of Agnes Klopfer
Massachusetts - Agnes Klopfer, 99, of Pittsfield, passed away Tuesday, September 4th at Mount Carmel Care Center after a short stay there. Born on July 30th, 1919 in Torrington, CT, to the late Alexander and Pauline Sorochinsky, she moved with her family to Nanticoke, NY at the age of 5, where she lived on their farm. She attended Whitney Point Central School, graduating in 1937. After high school Agnes earned certification in bookkeeping and worked at IBM for several years.
Agnes was briefly married to Aubrey Roe in 1940, until he lost his life while serving in the Army during WWII. She married Gerald C. Klopfer in Maine, NY in 1946 and was married until he predeceased her in 2009.
Agnes enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and painting. In the house she and her husband built, she worked side by side with her husband Gerald, on their extensive gardens or their many woodworking projects. Agnes was a member of the Nanticoke United Methodist Church for 88 years, where she taught Sunday School, served as their Treasurer for over 35 years, sang in the choir, and was active in the Ladies Society. Upon her relocation to Pittsfield, she attended the Supportive Day Program at the Frorio Senior Center.
She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Klopfer and Gale Etschmaier; son-in-law, Maximilian Etschmaier; two grandsons, Christoph and Sebastian Etschmaier; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Sorochinsky and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings: Tony Sarachinsky, Sty Sorochinsky, Helen Pitcher, and Victor Sorochinsky. A Funeral Service will be held, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Nanticoke United Methodist Church, Lisle. Family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. until service time. Burial at Maine Cemetery, Maine. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nanticoke United Methodist Church.
