Obituary of Richard P. Pindell

On October 14, 2018 Dr. Richard Phillip Pindell was received into the arms of our Lord. He was born in Baltimore on February 28th 1938 to Watson Farley and Mary (Georgious) Pindell. His loving Sister Gretchen Hoover predeceased him. His early years were spent on the family farm in Baltimore County. He attended Boys Latin in Baltimore and later Horace Mann preparatory school in New York City. He was then accepted into Yale University where he majored in his greatest interest, English Literature. The position of professor brought him to Harpur College in Binghamton New York in 1969. He received his Doctorate from Yale in 1973. He went on to become an award winning professor for more than forty years there. Pindell had a profound impact on thousands of students that adored his unique teaching style. He loved his profession dearly and couldn't wait for the next semester to begin. He also enjoyed travelling and hiking with his German Shepherds. He was a huge Civil War buff. He was also a regular contributor to Civil War Times Magazine, The Blue and The Gray magazine and The Saturday Evening Post to name a few. He was truly a master of the written word. His vast imagination was easily conveyed through his deeply descriptive narrative. Working daily on his sharp shooter manuscript was something he thoroughly enjoyed in later years. He had a fun loving spirit and truly loved life and nature to the fullest. His survivors are Constance A. Pindell, the Mother of their Daughters. Rebecca Schadt and fiance Larry VanZee and Rachel and James Forker. He was the Uncle to Laurie Ruxer, Kim Feinstein, Scott Hoover, Kelly McMullen and Wendy Sherman. His Grandchildren are Stephanie Schadt and fiance Nick Hurlbut, Tyler and Sarah Schadt, Travis Schadt and Caroline Forker. He had one Great Grandchild, Wyatt Schadt. The family will receive visitors during a calling hour at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott New York on Tuesday October 16th at 3pm.
