Obituary of Benton E Tait

VESTAL – Benton E. Tait, 71, of Vestal, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at home surrounded by family on January 5th, 2019. He was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Richard and Barbara Tait. Benton is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Marlene Stanton Smith Tait and beloved dog, Tiffany; daughters, Michelle Barnhart, Christine (Dave) Fraser, and Deborah (Derek) Sturdevant. Benton is also survived by his step-children, Lori (Michael) Karas, Dennis (Nancy) Smith, and Lynne Smith-Barnes; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; four brothers (Larry, Gary, Timmy, and Andy) and two sisters (Ginger and Char); as well as several nieces and nephews. Benton retired from Grand Union after several years of service. He enjoyed traveling, visiting family, going on cruises, and cooking. Ray's Auto was one of Benton's favorite places to pass the time. As a recipient of an organ donation, Benton's heart transplant gave him 11 more years of a joy filled life surrounded by loved ones. At Benton's request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
