Obituary of Robert J. Mitchell

Robert J. Mitchell of Apalachin Robert J. Mitchell, 83, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, September 29, 2009. He was born in Elmira, NY August 22, 1926, the son of Victor and Lenora Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise (Bogaczyk) Mitchell; daughter, Sharon (Will) Tracz, Owego; sons, Tom (Joan) Mitchell, Pittsburgh, PA, Robert (Susan) Mitchell Jr., Portland, ME; a sister, Lillian (Ted) Raniewicz, Elmira, NY; eight grandchildren, Matthew Tracz, Shannon (Jeremy) Dahl, Nicholas Tracz, Meghan (Alex) Little, Megan (Matt Mendell) Tracz, Nicole Mitchell, Natalie Mitchell, and Veronica Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Owen and Vanessa Dahl, Caleb and James Little; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired as an engineer from IBM after 33 years. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the VFW, the American Contract Bridge League (Regional Master) and a lifelong member of Blessed Trinity, St. Margaret Mary Church, Apalachin, NY. His children and grandchildren enjoyed every card game - and there were many. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2009, at St. Margaret Mary Church, State Route 434, Apalachin, NY. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin, NY. The family will receive friends at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Apalachin, on Friday, October 2, 2009, from 4-6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Mitchell's memory to Tioga County Rural Ministry, 143 North Ave., Owego, NY 13827.
