Obituary of Leroy A. Dakin
Leroy A. Dakin of Vestal
Leroy A. Dakin, 61, of Vestal, died Saturday evening, October 24, 2009, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton. He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Dakin, Vestal; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Julie Dakin, Johnson City; son, Ryan Dakin, Vestal; grandchildren, Conner, Emma and Matthew Dakin; brother, William Dakin, Portage, Indiana; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Ray Delafield, Vestal; nieces and nephews. Leroy was a retired employee of Broome County with over 30 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Vestal Fire Department Fire Police for 18 years and a former Captain of Station 2. He was a member of Twin Orchards Baptist Church and the church choir. The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Harris and staff at Broome Oncology, Seton I and ICU staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for their care.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal. The Rev. Timothy Dodd and the Rev. Kyle Kaurine, Pastors of Twin Orchards Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery, Vestal. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. He will be missed by a family he was dedicated to, by a church choir he couldn't wait to sing with, and by a fire department he tirelessly served. Those wishing may make contributions to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society Central New York Chapter, 401 North Salina St., Learbury Centre, Syracuse, NY 13203, in Leroy's memory.
