Obituary of Louis G Tomchick

8/13/1927 -4/27/2021 Lou peacefully left to be in the arms of his beloved wife Maggie who went to heaven December 16, 2003. Lou was also predeceased by his parents Mary and Joseph, four brothers and three sisters, and many other close relatives. Lou is survived by his sons Tom (Dorene) of Little Meadows, Pa. and James (Debbie) of Apalachin, NY. Grandchildren: Joshua (Stevie) Tomchick, Justeen (Chase) Foster, Ryan Tomchick, Step grandchildren, Dawn (Brad) Vargason, Jenn Purtell, Richard (Betsy) Semko, and Mark (Lauren)Gregg. Great grandchildren Hunter, Holley, Levi, Jacob, and Maggie. Step great grandchildren: Nick, Brayden, Emelia, Jayda, Amara, Layla, Maddy, Lucy, Austin, Harlow, and Weston. Lou was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Army and served as a guard in Washington D.C. during his tour, he guarded the country against the enemy while his comrades were at war in Korea. After his release from the Army, he met and fell in love with his beloved wife Maggie. They built a home on Lillie Hill Road and raised their boys there. Lou was an employee of Cadre for several years and moved on to IBM Owego where he retired as a Manufacturing Engineer. Lou also known as Butchie a name which was bestowed upon him by his loving sister Stasia, was an avid sportsman who loved to fish and hunt. Lou loved to garden and was famous for his pickle making. He became known as the Kielbasa King of Apalachin where he could be found making and sharing his famous Kielbasa. Always by his side making the kielbasa were his sons and his buddy Chuck Yoko. Lou could often be found road hunting with his best friend Pete Brozonis. Another dear friend that he always made kielbasa for and gossiped with was Frank Lopke. Lou was a very religious man who loved his Polish heritage. Every Christmas and Easter he called the family together and you were treated to his homemade perogies, Borscht, and all the traditional foods associated with that holiday. Lou's other passions were listening and dancing to Polka music. But his wife Maggie, his children and grandchildren were by far what he loved most. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at the New York State Veteran's Home at Oxford for the wonderful and loving care that was given to their beloved father for the past 7 plus years, and to the Mercy House for the past week for the loving care that they gave him, which was like pre heaven. A funeral service will be held at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 6519 Rt. 434, Apalachin, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
