Obituary of Joyce C. Campbell

Joyce Campbell, 90 years old, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 20, 2022. She was born on May 18, 1931. Predeceased by her husband, Harold Edward Campbell, and parents, Roy and Clara Shipman. She is survived by two sons and a daughter; Edward Campbell and wife Brenda Hahn, Binghamton; David Sr. and wife Susan Campbell, Vestal; Cindy and husband Gary Post Sr., Johnson City; five grandchildren, Danielle Hartshorn; Pastor David Jr. and wife Erin Campbell; Jared and wife Meridee Campbell; Steve and wife Stephanie Campbell; and Gary Jr. and wife Jessica; also eleven great-grandchildren, Max Campbell, Mira Campbell, Joshua Campbell, Jordan Campbell, Nora Campbell, Elizabeth Campbell, Hailey Campbell, Harper Campbell, Harrison Campbell, Kyra and her husband Daniel Hammond, and Tristan Fuller; as well as many nieces and nephews. Joyce grew up in Tracy Creek in Vestal and graduated from Vestal High School in 1949. She married the love of her life, Harold Campbell on November 21, 1950 and they were married 56 years until his death in 2007. Harold was in the Air Force when he and Joyce were dating, so after they married she spent several years in Caribou, Maine during the time Harold was stationed there; but Joyce always knew when Harold completed his time with the Air Force, she wanted to move back to Vestal. While raising three children, Joyce was a stay at home mom, but to help out financially, she would take care of other children Mondays through Fridays. She did this from the early 60's and continued doing this for many years. Two families that were very special to Joyce were Bill and Lynne Cucci and their children, Jason, Justin, and Chris; also Jim and Sue Carpenter and their children Katherine and Christine. In her later years, Joyce became a crossing guard in Endicott at the busy corner of Main Street and Route 26. Joyce had many friends that she appreciated and loved during her lifetime. Some of her closest friends were Dom and Rita Sorendo; Letha Houseknecht; Myrna and Larry Ward, Nancy Goff, Donna Watrous, Kim and Theresa Nelson along with many others. Joyce, reflecting on her years at Tracy Creek Memorial Church said "we grew up during the war years, and as the young men from upper and lower Tracy Creek went into the service – there was always a farewell party at the community hall for them. Bridal showers were also held for each girl when she got married there. A club called the Happy Married Club was formed later and made up of all the couples that Reverend Phipps had married over the years. We had picnics in the summer and banquets in the fall. But she had many memories of Tracy Creek Memorial Church because of the love and friendships she had forged over her lifetime. Joyce was very involved for many years as the contact point for their 1949 Vestal High School reunions. She loved getting together with her classmates and their spouses and looked forward to every reunion they had. One of her joys in life was watching her son, David Sr. play football for Vestal in the late 1960's and 1970. Then years later watching her grandsons play sports at Vestal; whether it was football, wrestling, basketball or lacrosse, she loved going to their games. Joyce felt blessed to have watched her grandsons get married and then to become a great-grandmother to nine beautiful children. During the last year of her life, she attended the Father's Heart Church in Vestal, where her oldest grandson, David Campbell Jr. was her pastor. Joyce lived a full life, but the final two decades brought health issues. Her home going to heaven means that she is no longer in pain, and no longer has to deal with suffering. Now that she is in heaven, she is reunited with the love of her life, her husband Harold. A memorial service will be held January 27 at 12 p.m. at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main Street, Vestal; her son, Pastor David Campbell Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, 3997 Vestal Road, in Vestal. The family will receive friends two hours before the funeral service from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memory donations to be made to - The Father's Heart, P.O.
