Obituary of Rita L Carden
Rita Louise (Coleman) Carden
Rita L. Carden, 92, of Vestal reunited with her husband and family in Heaven, early Wednesday morning, March 30, 2022. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Rita was truly the matriarch of her family, devoted to them in every way and they doted on her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James J. Carden; her parents, Joseph and Gertrude Coleman, Carbondale, Pa.; her siblings, Mary Fleming, Joseph Coleman Jr. and Agnes Ward. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Oneitta and James Ludwig, Endwell, Kathleen and Robert Searing, Apalachin, Caroline and Joseph Santangelo, Sudbury, Mass; her grandchildren, Meghan (Eric) Crist, Kevin (Haleigh) Ludwig, Robert (Katherina) Searing, Thomas (Kimberly) Searing, Matthew (Michelene) Searing, Conor (Olivia) Searing, Lucy (Matthew) Santangelo, and Nicholas (Caroline) Santangelo; her eight great-grandchildren, Andrei, Julia, Ellianna, John, Michael, Ronan, Cora, and another expected in June; her siblings Ann McConnell and James and Mary Ann Coleman; and countless nieces, nephews and family members who were all so special to her.
Though she was little, she was fierce and true to her Irish heritage, nothing could keep her down for long. Rita was a night-owl who enjoyed shopping, her unparalleled shoe collection, chicken wings, Dancing with the Stars and attending Saturday evening Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows, where she was a parishioner for sixty-two years. She was meticulous and independent in her care for her family, home, and yard. She was a devoted and loving wife who raised three daughters and spent many hours caring for her adored grandchildren. The love she exuded and generosity she bestowed are her greatest legacies.
Calling hours are Sunday, April 3rd from 2PM – 5PM at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St, Vestal. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 4th at 11 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Main Street in Vestal. Following the Mass, burial will be at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
