Obituary of Anna Kudyk

Anna Kudyk of Vestal, NY, died unexpectedly at her Castle Gardens apartment on Saturday, Aug 13th. Anna was born in Landshut, Germany on February 16, 1947 to Parana and George Kudyk. Not longer after that, she, along with her parents and 5 siblings traveled to the U.S. to arrive at Ellis Island where they later settled in the 1st ward area of Binghamton. She later graduated from Binghamton High School and became a naturalized citizen at age 18. Anna began working at the Binghamton State Hospital in 1969 where she worked for nearly 30 years; first as a therapy aide on the units and later as a rehab assistant before retiring in 1997 to assist in raising her very young niece and nephew and aging father. Anna was an avid reader and was always there wherever and whenever she was needed. After her father's passing & niece/nephew & later grandson beginning school, boredom quickly set in which led her to working 7 years at Tioga Hills Elementary School as a monitor. This allowed her to not only keep an eye on her grandson but to also work around children, both of which she thoroughly enjoyed! She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law & grandson, Theresa, Fran & Joshua Tonkin (Apalachin, NY); special nieces, Andrea Berish (Vestal, NY); Christine Rodriguez (Binghamton, NY); Shannon Kudyk (Endwell, NY); sister-in-law Leslie Kudyk (Lancaster, CA); brother John Kudyk (Massachusetts) and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Parana & George Kudyk; siblings (beloved sister) Pearl Vetrino, Klym Petryszyn, Bohdan Kudyk, Nicholas Kudyk, and niece Maria Berish and nephew Douglas Berish who held a very special place in her heart. Friends & family are welcome to attend a church service at Our Lady of Sorrows on August 18th at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows in her memory or St. Jude.
