Obituary of Gerald C Wilcox

Gerald Carl Wilcox (86) of Vestal passed away peacefully at Mercy House on September 1, 2022 with family by his side. He was born on June 20, 1936 in Endicott, NY to Curtis & Ruth Wilcox. He graduated from Union Endicott in 1954, then served from 1954-58 in the US Navy. He was married on June 14, 1958 to Barbara Ann Douglass, and they had three daughters, Kathy, Karen & Kim. Gerry worked for IBM for 30 years, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. When Kodak purchased IBM's copier department, he retired from IBM on a Friday and went to work for Kodak the following Monday, continuing in essentially the same job for another 10 years. He joined, was baptized and married at First Presbyterian church (now Living Hope) and served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed baseball, softball, golf and bowling. He volunteered at the BC/Dicks Open for many years. He was inducted into the Southern Tier Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996. He served as a Southern Tier USBC Director. Many hours of Gerry's time were spent at the Endicott bowling office, where he served as Secretary of the Endicott Bowling Association. Gerald is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Ann (Douglass) Wilcox; daughters Kathy Wilcox, Karen (Jeanine) Beiber, Kim (John) Dzury; grandchildren Lee, Alex & Anna Dzury and quasi-grandchildren Desiree & Dominic Sinclair; sisters Lila Robert, Joan (Jim) Peck, Jean (Larry) Albritton; brother-in-law Bob Moyer, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Douglass and loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Curtis & Ruth Wilcox, niece Melissa J. Ely and brother-in-law Dick Robert. He was also predeceased by Barb's parents, Kenneth & Eleanor Douglass, as well as her siblings Bonnie Moyer and Bill Douglass. Gerry will always be remembered for his light blue eyes and his infectious smile. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 10 at Living Hope Church, 29 Grant Avenue, Endicott at 11 am, visiting hour at 10. Gerry spent his last few weeks under the loving care of Mercy House, a nonprofit hospice facility, surrounded by caring staff and volunteers.
