Obituary of Elvira M. Hammond
Elvira "Vera" M. Hammond (nee Mendoza) – loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend of many – went home to be with her Lord on November 24th, 2022 at the age of 82. She was born on October 3, 1940 and grew up in Big Spring, TX. Vera joined the US Army and was stationed in Fort Knox, KY which is where she met her husband, James W. Hammond. On June 6, 1959, she married James, and they were happily together for 63 years before her death. She faithfully served her Lord at South Owego Bible Church for many years and in many different capacities.
Vera was predeceased by both her parents Frank and Luisa Mendoza and siblings Mary, Benigna, Christina, Albert, and David. She is survived by her husband, James, along with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: daughter Malinda Sue Law and husband Bill of Greensboro, NC and grandchildren Whitney Law (great-grandchildren Natalie, Aria, Elliot) and Allison Law, her husband Jimmy Chang and great-grandchild Paxton; son Keith Hammond and wife Dawn of Apalachin, NY and grandchildren Angelina and Zachariah; daughter Marcia Young and husband John of Matthews, NC and grandchildren Lauren and Emma; she is also survived by her siblings Louise, Raymond, Frank, Richard, and Robert.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30th at 10am with the funeral service to immediately follow at 11am at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral home in Vestal, NY. Her Pastors, Rev. Mike Sisson and Rev. David Seaver, will jointly officiate. Burial will be in the Vestal Park Cemetery on Main St. in Vestal, NY.
