Obituary of David L Harvey
On Thursday, December 8, 2022 our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, David Harvey, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Dave was born to Lois (Chapman) and Lewis Harvey and raised on Hooper Road in Endwell. He graduated from Crane School of Music in 1964 with a degree in Music Education. He later earned a Master's Degree from SUNY Binghamton and CAS from SUNY Oswego. He was a concert and marching band director for many years, teaching in Bainbridge-Guilford, Baldwinsville, and Union Endicott; retiring from UE in 1997 as the Supervisor of Music and Art.
Dave married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie (Bodie). They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Dave and Bonnie had a wonderful life together. Dave is survived by his wife Bonnie, three children Karel (Drew) James, Todd (Denise) Harvey, and Beth (Guy) Margallo; and four grandchildren: Brad and Nate James, Matthew Margallo, and Jiandra Harvey. He is also survived by his brothers, Keith (Dori) and Mark (Judy) and sisters-in-law Nancy Harvey and Beverly Cosimano along with many nieces and nephews. Dave is predeceased by his parents, his brother Jim, and brother-in-law Raymond Cosimano.
Dave's life was filled with music. He especially enjoyed teaching, performing, composing and arranging. His teachings inspired countless others to become great musicians and better people. He was active at Central United Methodist Church and loved singing in their choirs. In addition to his love of music, he enjoyed art in various forms. He especially liked painting and drawing, often gifting friends and family with his watercolors or cartoon story boards depicting memorable moments of the life of the recipient. His greatest joy though, was spending time with his family. Winters would find Dave and Bonnie hosting the family holiday celebrations, while summers consisted of golfing and spending time with their Sandy Pond friends. He was always generous with his time to the schools, the church, and his family, while invariably keeping his boundless positive energy and joyous sense of humor.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kimberly Crum for her incredible care and support as well as the staff at Willow Point Nursing Home, Good Shepherd Village Health Center, and all three local hospitals.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Sunday, December 18, at Central United Methodist Church in Endicott. The family will receive condolences beginning at 1:30 pm with a service to follow at 3 pm. Masks are required.
