Obituary of Karen V. Hage

Karen V. Hage (Vigeant), age 65, passed away on Saturday, December 31st after a battle with cancer. Karen was born on December 19, 1957, in Lowell, MA and was raised in Lowell, Lewiston, Idaho and Vestal, NY. She was pre-deceased by her beloved parents, Henry and Wanda Vigeant. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Evan Moss, Vestal, NY and her brother and sister-in-law Gary Vigeant and Linda Ocasio, Vancouver, WA, and her sister of the heart, Lorraine Dias, Corning NY. She leaves behind friends and neighbors, Gloria Soovajian, Judy Cunning, Mary Buchta and her favorite family – Chelsea and Brett Stankevich and their beloved children Maya, Emme and Theo. Karen was a graduate of Vestal High School and earned an AS in both Engineering Sciences and Nursing from Broome Community College, and a BS in Nursing from Binghamton University. Karen knew she wanted to be a nurse from a very young age and honored her chosen profession with many years of service at Lourdes Hospital, UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital. She was a dedicated nurse, working in many areas of care – the OR, pediatrics, maternity and finally many years of Psych nursing. Karen was a wonderful daughter and took excellent care of her parents in their later years when her nursing skills were very needed. She was a fantastic sister and was a kind and generous person. She loved baking, reading, bird watching, sitting outside enjoying the neighborhood, and had a special relationship with her 'niece' – cat, Tessa. The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Point Rehab and Nursing Center, especially the staff on North 2 and the rehab staff on N1, who were always patient, kind and very caring in their treatment of Karen and her family. They made a difficult time easier, and their care was so very appreciated. Her family will receive visitors on Friday, January 6th, from 10 am – 12 pm at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St, Vestal, NY. Funeral services will be held following visitation at noon. Burial will follow at Vestal Park Cemetery, Main Street, Vestal.
