Obituary of Grace Gurdin

Grace M. (Rasmussen) Gurdin, 95, passed away January 17, 2023 in Owego, New York. Born to Knud O. and Amalie C (Petersen) Rasmussen in the Bronx, NYC. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 55 years, Robert M Gurdin and her son, Nils R. Gurdin. Grace graduated with honors from Forest Hills High School. She went on to and graduated from Adelphi College and School of Nursing. Continuing her education at NYU and Adelphi she received her certificate as a Public Health Nurse. She started her Public Health Career with the NYC Health Dept then the Suffolk County Health Dept. After moving to Upstate New York with her husband, children and parents, she worked for Broome County Health dept and then became Director of Public Health Nursing for Tioga County from 1966-1982. Grace loved her family, friends and her many pets. She was active in Park Terrace Community United Methodist Church. Through the years she served on many boards relating to health services and education. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as one who loved them unconditionally. Grace is survived by her daughters, Kim S, Siddall (Douglas Siddall), Barbara L Hellmers (Gary L Hellmers), Daughter-In-Law, Mary Anne Courtney; grandchildren, Sarah M Hellmers, Matthew R. Helllmers (Alycia Hellmers), Leif A. Courtney-Gurdin, Nils J. Siddall (Jutarat Siddall) as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Riverview Nursing Home in Owego for the excellent care and loving kindness that they gave mom the last several years. Special thanks to Marcia, Wade, Christina, John and Sean. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
