Obituary of Trudy Gruneis Rasimas
Trudy Gruneis Rasimas, 96 of Fayetteville and Apalachin, NY passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023, with her family at her side. She was born in New Haven, CT on November 4th, 1926 to her parents Emil and Emma (Treftz) Gruneis.Trudy was predeceased by her parents, husband John, infant son Richard, grandson Paul, and brother Emil. She will be dearly missed and always remembered by her surviving family: four children: John Rasimas Jr. (Kathy), Susan Rasimas, Dawn Hertel (Alan) and Priscilla Moyer (Michael), her sisters Erna Clausen, Claire Johnson, Sandra Pavkov, her grandchildren: Heather, Jennifer, Rebecca, Emily, Carolyn, Stephanie, Sarah, John, and Peter, twelve great grandchildren, and extended family.
Trudy met her husband, John at the rollerskating rink where he taught her to skate and later taught her to dance. Trudy and John danced together throughout their 71 years of marriage. After the birth of their first child, they relocated to Fayetteville, NY to start their career in the laundry business. She played an integral part in their family business before attending college and working as an assistant librarian in the F.M. school district.
Trudy shared a love for boating with John and together they spent as much time as possible on the waters of the St. Lawrence River. They cherished their many trips up the Rideau Canal, on their favorite boat the "Yes Dear". Family gatherings at "The River" weren't complete without some of Trudy's famous German Potato Salad, which she learned to make while helping in her father's delicatessen. Whether it was caring for her beautiful gardens, cooking a delicious meal for her loved ones, or doing another unique craft project with her grandchildren, Trudy (lovingly known as Trudy Grandma) always kept herself busy and engaged. Music was an important part of Trudy's life - from learning to play the piano at an early age, singing in the Syracuse Chorale, or listening to Handel's Messiah, Trudy passed this love of music on to her entire family.
Trudy had a unique eye for beauty and design, collecting beautiful items throughout her worldly travels. She and John loved to entertain, and created a home filled with family, friendship, and celebration. Some of the family's favorite times (besides boating) were spent around a large Thanksgiving table or gathered around watching slideshows of family photos together.
We know that Trudy and John are healthy and spending their days sitting on their deck at "The River" watching the freighters go by.
The family will receive friends at the Vestal United Methodist Church 328 Main Street, Vestal, NY on 03/18/2023 beginning at 3:00 PM, with a memorial service following at 4:00 PM. Donations in her memory can be made to the Alexandria Bay Hospital (riverhospital.org) or Wellesley Island Volunteer Fire Department (PO Box 589, Thousand Island Park, NY 13692)
