Obituary of Kenneth A. Brinkman
Kenneth Albert Brinkman, 90, of Apalachin, NY passed away unexpectedly at home on March 3, 2023. He was born in Binghamton, NY. Ken was pre-deceased by his parents, Marian and Albert Brinkman, his brother Ronald, and brother in law John Donald Hogan. He is survived by his bride of 70 years, Joann; five daughters: Judy (Alan) Nice, Jill (David) Patak, Joni (Craig) Whitney, Jan LaFountaine, and Jeanne (Jeff) Rowe, brother and sister in law, William and Dorothy Brinkman and sister in law Anna Craig Hogan. His legacy includes 12 grandchildren: Tim, Jocelyn, Jason, Heather, Lindsay, Derek, Kristi, Kyle, Carlyle, Colton, Zach and Nate; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ken proudly served in the US Navy 1950-1953 as an aircraft engine mechanic aboard the USS Mindoro. He was a dedicated member of the Apalachin Volunteer Fire Department for 65 years. For 57 of those years, he managed the "beer tent" at the Apalachin Firemen's Field Days. Most recently he enjoyed escorting the Apalachin Elementary students for their walk to the "Big Dipper" and the annual Trunks for Treats at Halloween. He was a Master Plumber and 69 year member of the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Apprentices Local Union 112. He graduated from Purdue University earning his certification as an instructor of the Plumbing and Pipefitting industry. He was a member of the American Legion Post 401 and the VFW Post 1371. He battled and won a serious cancer diagnosis, treatment and surgery at 84 years young. Ken enjoyed camping with the family, bowling, golf and telling his stories. He had a love-hate relationship with the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. One of his favorite past times was sitting on the front porch talking to neighbors and enjoying family visits. Our Dad will forever be missed by his loving wife and "his girls" and undoubtedly this community. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 9, 2023 10 am to 12 Noon, followed by a funeral mass at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St., Endwell, NY with Father Clarence Rumble officiating.
