Obituary of Michael Zimmer

Michael E. Zimmer, 63, of Apalachin, went home to the Lord, Friday May 12, 2023. Predeceased by his parents, Duane and Tory Zimmer, his beloved wife Shirley and young nephew Jarred, Mike is survived by his sister Susan M. Hammond, nephews Chris (Kara) and Brett (Karie), great nieces and nephews Kinleigh, Caleb and Cooper, Abby, Alex and Charlie V., a special Aunt Genevieve Kvasnak, and several cousins. He was a member of the Little Meadows United Methodist Church and a former Stephens minister. Mike was retired from the Town of Owego after serving 27 years as Clerk. During his tenure, Mike was actively involved with both Tioga and Broome counties, helping to form the New York State Town Clerk's Association, wherein he was affectionately known as the "Great Kahuna". Mike's love for dogs extended well beyond serving as Dog Control Officer for 3 years in the Town of Owego. Into local arenas and beyond, his handling and showing of several breeds culminated in the award of "Best in Show", at the 1999 Westminster Kennel Club competition, to one of his own. Blessed with a talent for photography, he joined with Shirley to catalog their extensive travel and life experiences in "scrap books" to share with others. Family and friends may call from 5-7 PM on Friday, June 2nd and 10AM on Saturday June 3rd, with a Memorial Service at 11AM at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 300 Main St., Endicott NY. Expressions of sympathy in Mike's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
