Obituary of Karen M. Bleil

Karen Marie Bleil (Desko), 75, of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on 6/16/23 surrounded by her family and friends. After a long battle with cancer that she courageously fought "her way," she went to be with her Savior and is finally at peace. Karen is predeceased by her parents, George and Stella Desko, brother Robert Desko, and her loving pets Heidi, Jill, and Bucky. Karen is survived by her husband Raymond Bleil, sisters Mary Desko and Cynthia Bowen (Gary), niece Christy Desko, nephews Gary Jr., David, and Jonathan Bowen, great nieces Stella and Scarlett Bowen, a special friend Carolyn Durkee, as well as numerous cousins. Karen was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School (class of 1966). She was also a graduate of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO, where she received a degree in Spanish Education. She also went on to further her education by studying abroad in Spain. She obtained an additional degree in Psychology from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA, and later on a nursing degree. She found a passion in helping others and worked as a home health aide for numerous years in Broome County. Karen was also a loyal employee at McDonalds in Endicott, NY. Karen spent her life devoted to Jesus and his teachings. Her faith was unwavering. She routinely attended church services at the Bethel Baptist Church in Vestal, NY. She traveled to many religious revivals across the country in order to pray and preach his word. And, she always kept a bible near her so that she could read the scriptures at any given moment. Karen was also one of the most generous people with a strong mindset and kind heart. She devoted her time to taking care of stray animals by providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. One of her passions was baking and she was always complimented on her perfect pie crusts and Russian tea cookies. Committal services will be on Wednesday 6/21/23 at 11:00am at the Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY with Pastor David Rising officiating. Immediately following, a memorial service will be held for Karen at the Bethel Baptist Church 300 N. Jensen Rd, Vestal, NY 13850. The family would like to thank Mercy House for the care they provided Karen during her transition, as well as Ed & Darlene Kohles and Pastor Rising for their continuous support. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Mercy House, 212 N. McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760 in honor of Karen's memory.
