Obituary of Michael Boras
Michael Boras 05/30/1921 - 01/28/2010 of Endwell
Michael Boras joined his heavenly family on January 28, 2010. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Jennie Helen (Mangione) Boras; sister, Anna; brother, John; mother, Mary (Komanowski); and father, John. He is survived by his four children, Barbara, Robert, Thomas and Ken, their spouses, Bill Choate, Suzanne Warren, Jackie Marlette; and grandchildren, Alex, Matthew, Britton, Sonja, Raelyn and Julia; and his brother, George; sisters-in-law, Lydia and Helen Boras; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and close friends that all meant so much to him. Michael was a graduate of U-E High School, class of 1939, where he played the violin in the orchestra and earned three letters for football, basketball and baseball. After working for Hardinge, Elmira and E-J Shoe Co., he joined IBM in 1941 and attended IBM's factory training school, receiving high honors. A navy veteran of World War II, he spent 23 months stationed in the Caribbean before being selected to enroll in officer's training at the University of Rochester, graduating in 1946 as a mechanical engineer and becoming an ensign. While attending the university, he met Jennie. They were married at St. Patrick's Church, October 27, 1945 in Rochester, NY. He resigned his commission as the war ended to work again for IBM, retiring after 42 years in 1983. After retirement he had more time to enjoy his passion for golf and his desire to travel. Mike and Jennie traveled the country, Mike playing golf with life-long friends and family and Jennie as cart driver. Over the years, they visited Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico. He was very active in Maine-Endwell PTA and Booster Club and was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, serving as director of alter boys and on many church committees.
His viewing will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 5. Funeral services: Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 12 Noon, Saturday, February 6. In lieu of flowers, donations for a gift in his memory may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 210 Hill Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.
