My sincere condolences to all of Jan’s family & friends.
Jan was my next door neighbor for over 30-yrs before my wife & I moved to SC 2-yrs ago. I first met Jan on the discus field at VHS in the spring of 1975 shortly after the Schaller’s moved to Vestal. I also moved to Vestal just before my sophomore year so I knew how tough it was to uproot as a teen. Jan & I were friends from that point on. In our 1977 yearbook, there are full page pictures of Jan on the left and a full page picture of me on the right. Lo and behold 14-yrs later we would buy houses next to each other! I could not have picked a better neighbor to have. He was more than a friend or a neighbor; he was a brother. RIP my brother. You are free now. God Bless.

My buddy, my pal, and my friend. I've know Jan for 44 years. He is one of the kindest men I've ever known. He did have an orneryness at times but superceid by his kindness. In the late 80's I became his neighbor. I'm send my deepest condolences to his family members, he will be sorely missed. So many great memories over the decades. We worked together at IBM. We worked on stuff together, he was always quick to loan a tool or whatever to get the job done. I knew all of his dogs and vise versa. This last decade we had the opportunity many times to just sit and reminisce about life and probably heard stories of all of you. I could go on and on. My wife Annie and I are just broken hearted over his departure.
Proud to have been his friend. I leave him with this Lakota saying:
Aƞpétu kiƞ lé taƞyáƞ máni yó/ye
Tókša akhé waƞčhíyaƞkiƞ kte.
Translated:
Walk well today brother
I will see you again.
Peace to you all. Bill and Annie
