Obituary of Kenneth L Shriver
Kenneth Shriver, age 97, graduated to Heaven on July 11, 2024 from Mercy House in Endicott, NY. Ken was blessed to have the supportive treatment from both Mercy House staff and Hospice in his last days.
Ken is survived by his son Rick Shriver, daughter and son in law Joy and Stew Bennett, and grandchildren Michael and Marykate Bennett. Ken is also survived by his sister and brother Dorothy and Ronald Shriver. Ken is joining in Heaven, his wife, Winnie; son, Donald and daughter, Carol.
Ken was born near Altoona, PA and attended high school there. He completed a three year program at Philadelphia College of the Bible in 1948. It was there that he met and fell in love with his wife, Winnie. In 1951, he completed his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy at Kings College. Ken started his professional career as an Assistant Pastor at Little White Church in Conklin, NY. In 1955, Ken was hired by IBM as a supervisor in blueprint reproduction, he eventually moved to contracts and marketing, where in 1965 he was named Manager of Proposal Administration. He retired after 29 years with IBM.
Ken is a member of Twin Orchards Baptist/Grace Point Church in Vestal, NY. He served as an Elder and was the facilitator of the Senior Saints Sunday School Bible class for many years. Ken studied and taught the scriptures for decades. He was a lifelong learner and was well read in many subjects. One of things Ken missed most as he entered his last few years was losing the ability to read books.
Ken was a member of the Gideons Internation, Broome West Camp. Within that organization, Ken preached in churches, distributed scriptures, conducted street meetings and participated in prison ministries at Auburn and Elmira Correctional Facilities.
Ken was an artist and created in the mediums of oil, charcoal and pastels. He and his wife shared time with a very special group of friends traveling and camping in several states. Ken and Winnie also spent many years volunteering at Robert Packer Hospital while their son Don was undergoing dialysis treatment. They were honored with volunteers of the year for their years of service.
Ken's love of the Lord and sharing that love with others was the cornerstone of his life. He modeled his beliefs and fulfilled the role of servant of Christ, whenever he could.
Funeral service are being held at Grace Point Church on Old Vestal Road in Vestal, NY on Monday, July 15, 2024. Viewing will be held 11am -12pm. Funeral services at 12:00pm.
