Obituary of Robert J. Nasiatka
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Robert John Nasiatka, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bob passed away on 10/23 at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal at the age of 86.
Bob grew up in Johnson City, New York with his parents, Helen and Frank Nasiatka. He graduated from Johnson City High School, class of 1956. After high school he attended Broome Tech. Bob started a job at NYSEG in 1958 and had a wonderful and rewarding career at NYSEG. He retired after 36 years of service.
Bob moved to Vestal with the love of his life, his wife Diane, in 1964. Bob made life-long friends in the neighborhood with Card Club, Dinner Club and the wonderful community in Vestal. Bob immediately joined the Vestal Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of the department for over 55 years. He loved serving the community, holding every officer position and eventually becoming chief. Bob cherished his time at Station One, again making lifelong friends.
Bob's service to Vestal did not stop there. Bob started his political career in the 1990s. He ran for and won a councilman's position. He eventually successfully became Vestal's Supervisor. He truly enjoyed those positions, being able to give back to the community he loved.
Bob and Diane celebrated 64 years of marriage this October. Bob took every anniversary off from work to celebrate with Diane. They loved to travel, with Bermuda being their favorite destination. They also loved bowling, golf and dancing. Some of their favorite times were just spending time with their extended family and their wonderful friends from Vestal. Bob just loved life.
Bob is survived by his wife, Diane, as well as two children who were his world, Suzanne Nasiatka (Glynn Matthews) and Robert (Christine) Nasiatka. Bob was blessed with five grandchildren: Joseph (Amanda) Hens, Nick (Amanda) Hens, Daniel Hens, Samantha (Zach) Calhoun and Mara Nasiatka. Bob also had five great-grandchildren that he absolutely adored: Levi, Elliot, Finley and Mason Calhoun and Cecilia Hens. Bob left behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Edward and Frank.
The family will receive friends at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal, on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately to follow. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
