Obituary of Albert A. Bomysoad

Al (Albert) A. Bomysoad (1958-2024) died unexpectedly in his Vestal NY home on 10/22/24. He was the first of five children born to Madeline and Mitchell Bomysoad. Al attended Vestal High School and Broome Community College, where he received an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. Al spent 25 years serving his community with the Broome County Sheriff's Department, where he worked his way up to Captain of the department. Upon retirement from the department, he worked at a local hardware store until he retired for good.

Al was a great many things to a great many people. A doting son, a caring brother and cousin, a dedicated husband, father, and uncle. A true family man who would welcome so many people into our orbit with the same kindness and generosity that he showed his own. It takes a village, and Al, whether he knew it or not, was one of the village leaders.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with family, creating memories and stories that he would share for years to come, be it from old family camping and fishing trips to Black Lake or Cayuga Lake with his parents and siblings, Salmon River trips with Barry and friends, or hunting and fishing trips with all the kids later on. The results of the trip were always secondary to enjoying the time together with some ball busting for good measure. He could take it as well as he could dish it, and outings with Al were always great for warm feelings and good laughs.

He would also be by your side in a time of need. Al was selfless when it came to his free time and if someone needed a hand, he would be there for whatever it was. A broken car, a construction project, tracking a deer in the woods in the dark, Al was up for anything. He was the type of man you wanted to have in your time of need, and always had words of wisdom for any situation. Whether you were ready to hear them or not. Turns out, he was always trying to impart some lesson on us, if only we recognized it at the time.

Al was preceded in death by his father Mitchell, father-in-law Robert, and sister-in-law Roseann, and is survived by his mother Madeline, mother-in-law Frances, wife Donna, sons James and Steven, brothers Fred and his partner Kelly, Mark and his partner Tammi, and Mitch and his wife Laurie, sister Lil, sister-in-law Gina and brother-in-law Matthew and his wife Cassie. He is also survived by his nephews Justin, Anthony, Christopher, Charles, Eric, and Kevin, nieces Tara, Kara, and Rachel, godson Ryan, great nephews Liam and Keegan, and great niece Siobhan, and so many more people that are near and dear to his heart.

Calling hours for Al will be held at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home in Vestal NY on Monday, 10/28, from 4pm to 6pm, with a service immediately following at 6pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of people have an Al story, and many more have come flooding in this past week that are new to us. In his honor, we ask that everyone take some time to consider how they could make a positive impact in the lives they reach, and try to be a little more like Al every chance they get. The world would truly be a better place if more people would do good for the sake of doing good like Al always tried to do.
