Obituary of Stanley Hawrylczak
Stanley Hawrylczak of Vestal
Stanley Hawrylczak, of Vestal, passed away on March 5, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Geraldine E. Hawrylczak; and his parents, brothers and sister. He is survived by his daughters, Susan E. Rogers and Elaine Najarian (Jim Lovejoy); his 6 grandchildren, Meghan Sullivan (Michael), Erin McMullen (Jarod), Joshua Vymislicky, Lindsey Rogers (Marie), Heather Vymislicky (Loren Limbert), and Courtney Blair (Robert); 9 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law and their husbands, Margaret and Frank Lewalski, and Carol and Jakob Gumulak; and several loving nieces and nephews. Stanley was born on January 1, 1925 in Lackawanna, NY. As a New Years baby, his birthdays were especially celebrated with family and friends dancing and toasting. Coming home from WWII, where he served in the South Pacific as a Corporal in the Marines, Stanley worked briefly for Dupont and Weisner-Rapp in Buffalo, NY before taking a position as an engineer at IBM Owego. He retired from IBM after 25 years. Stanley was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of Legion Post 89, and a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He and his wife, Gerry, were members of the Polka Paraders and enjoyed many Saturday night dances. Stanley was a resident at the Hearth of Castle Gardens, where he was a member of the resident volleyball team, a volunteer clerk at their general store, and also enjoyed taking care of the plants in the courtyard. He enjoyed the dances, and playing bingo and checkers with his many friends. Stanley was an avid photographer throughout his life and won ribbons for his beautiful landscapes.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home at 765 Main St. in Vestal from 9-11 a.m. on March 13, 2010. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 156 Charles St. in Vestal. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Capital Campaign Fund or the Alzheimer's Association .
