Obituary of Catherine Deming

Catherine M. Deming, age 93, of 6045 Lake View Lane, died on Friday, October 29, 2010. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 South Main Street, Ovid, NY. The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 2nd at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home Inc, 300 East Main Street, Endicott. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 1:00pm officiated by Pastor Larry Jennings of the Warren Center Baptist Church. Prayers of Committal will be held at Vestal Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Tioga County Historical Society, 110 Front Street, Owego, NY 13827 in Katy's memory. Katy was born on July 24, 1917 in Candor, NY a daughter of the late Frank L. and Ethel L. (Jackson) Meddaugh. She graduated from the Candor High School and moved to Endicott to work for the IBM Corp. during WWII. Shortly after the war she met and was married to Richard Deming on July 23, 1948. In addition to raising her boys, Katy had been employed as a secretary for Fernstrom's Moving Company in Endicott for several years. Katy was very interested in her family history and genealogy, and had a collection of family stories published to preserve them for generations to come. Upon their retirements, Dick and Katy travelled extensively and wintered in Florida. In 1997, they made their summer home (since 1973) on Cayuga Lake their full-time residence. Katy is survived by hers sons, Alvin (Leona) Deming of Ovid, David (MaryJo) Deming of Crossville, TN, and a grandson, Michael Deming of Arlington, VA, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard in 2003 and by her brothers, Elmer and Preston Meddaugh and a sister and brother in law, Rachel and Henry Hollenbeck
