Obituary of Neva Alta Leonard

Neva Alta (Whipple) Leonard Neva Alta (Whipple) Leonard, of Washington, PA, formerly of Vestal Center, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on January 17th, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband, Gervis Leonard of 44 years; her son, Timothy Leonard; and her sister, Geraldine Swider. She is survived by her children, Brian Leonard of Vestal, NY, Collin Leonard of Vestal Center, NY, Michelle (Leonard) Sterns of Washington, PA, and Patrick Leonard of Endicott, NY. She also leaves behind sons and daughters-in-law whom she loved very much: Liz Leonard of Vestal, NY, David Sterns of Washington, PA, Corinna Fritch of Dover, DE and Jeanne Leonard of Binghamton, NY. Neva had 8 grandchildren: Noelle Leonard of Dover, DE, Celeste Stockwin of Apalachin, NY, Joseph Sterns of Orwigsburg, PA, Brooke Silver of Gastonia, NC, Heather Leonard of Vestal, NY, Brian Leonard of Endicott, NY, Nathan Leonard of Endwell, NY and Brandon Leonard of Endwell, NY; and 7 great-grandchildren: Julia, Emma, Addison and Leo Stockwin of Apalachin, NY, Samuel and Luke Sterns of Orwigsburg, PA and Chase Silver of Gastonia, NC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Neva was a retired beautician of 30+ years and also worked for IBM during WWII and for the Vestal School district. She was one of the original members of the Degree of Pocahontas, Improved Order of Redmen, Kickapoo Tribe. She worked on the election board for many years. Over the years she enjoyed camping, fishing, waterskiing, bowling, crocheting, and she was an avid reader. She was a longtime member of the Vestal Center United Methodist Church. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services for Neva will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 10 a.m. from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, NY with the Rev. Dr. Roger L. Frederick, Pastor of the Vestal Center United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
