Obituary of Richard K. Warren
Richard Keith Warren Richard Keith Warren of Endwell Richard Keith Warren, age 83, passed away late Tuesday evening, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his father, Clifford; mother, Christine; sister, Geraldine Gardner; and aunt, Eleanor Holden. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Virginia; his three children, Suzanne, Rick and Craig; his six grandchildren, Johanna, Meghan, Kyle, Alex, Britton, Karissa; and a great-grandchild, Finley. He is also survived by four nephews, Clifford, Jeff, Russ, and Criss Gardner and cousin, Sherril Pope. Richard was a graduate of Watkins Glen High School and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He was a combat veteran serving in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces in three major invasions in the Pacific and the occupation of Japan. He was a Plankowner of the U.S. Navy Amphibious LSM-LSMR Association and U.S. Navy Memorial. With 38 years of service at the IBM Endicott Branch Office as a field engineer, Richard Warren retired maintaining membership in the Quarter Century and the Two Generation Clubs. He was also a member of American Legion Post 82 and VFW 1449. Richard was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and served on its council. Since retirement, Dick traveled to LSM-LSMR Navy reunions around the country and completed many major remodeling projects around his home and church. Ahead of his time in conservation, he took great pride in his ability to either repair or recycle. Much of the food on the table was raised in the garden. His John Deere logged many miles, and that which could not be composted was burned. He kept his typewriter busy documenting stories of the war years for various publications and alerting companies to needed improvements in their products. He received a great deal of free merchandise. Dick firmly believed in the power of a personal letter. Through snailmail, he left behind for family and friends a treasure trove of thoughtful expression, keen observations, deep reflections, and genuine thankfulness. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 5th, from 4-7 p.m. at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott. Immediately following, there will be a short memorial honoring Richard's military service. On Saturday, December 6th, at 11 a.m., a funeral service will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Endwell. A private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Endwell, N.Y.
