Obituary of Daniel M. Vassello

Daniel Vassello Endicott: Daniel Vassello of Endicott passed away on Wednesday, June 15, following a long and courageous battle with lymphoma, heart disease, and several debilitating strokes. He was 60 years old. Daniel was born on December 23, 1950 to Daniel and Betty Vassello. Daniel graduated from Peekskill Military Academy in 1968. He was married to Dona McBride from 1984 until 2003, and the couple had four children: John, Marie, Joseph and Jennifer. In 2007, Daniel became affianced to Sheila Kornegay of Endicott. While Daniel had a myriad of designations, roles and jobs throughout his life, he was proudest of the title "Pop-Pop," which he earned when he became a grandfather in 2010. Dan described the moments that he spent with his granddaughter, Kylie "Danika" Danielle, as the happiest, proudest, and most miraculous in his life. Daniel is survived by his fiance, Sheila Kornegay; his mother, Betty Vassello; his sister, Linda Vassello; his brother, Douglas Vassello; his brother, Paul Vassello; his eldest son, John Vassello; his eldest daughter, Marie Oropallo; his son, Joseph Vassello; his daughter, Jennifer Vassello; his granddaughter, Kylie Danielle Oropallo; his son-in-law, Jonathan Oropallo; his niece, Georgia McKenna; his niece, Sarah Vassello; his nephew, Nicholas Vassello; and his great nephew, Dominic McKenna. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott. The family will receive their friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.
