Douglas E. Nelson
Maine, NY: Douglas E. Nelson, 85, from the town of Maine, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday July 31, 2011. He is in heaven with his father, Robert Nelson, mother, Eunice Nelson, brother, Richard, sister, Carolyn, and son, Carlton. He is survived by his wife, LaVonne, his dog, Smokie, his cat, Tommy Tinker, and his donkey, Pumpkin. He is also survived by his sons, Robert (Cathy) Nelson, Douglas (Beth) Nelson, Wayne (Linda) Nelson, Tim (Cindy) Nelson, and Daughter Jane (Chuck) Biggs; his grandchildren, Robbie, Amy, Danielle (Dinell), Dianna, Donna, Jess, Becky, Lottie, Alisha, Amber, Shannon, Betty, Dustin; great-grandchildren, Adam, Allison, Lindsey, Dustin, Dylan, Aden, Jonathan, Cody, Ella, J.R., Mason, Trinity; his sisters, Barb, Beverly, Eleanor, and many nieces and nephews. Grandpa Douggie will be missed by, Tyler, Kayla and Katie. Doug retired from The Union Forging Company in 1988 after 45 years. He was the president of the Boilers Maker's Union for many years and a life member of the Holding Court American Legion Post 1390 of Maine. Doug loved to spend time with his family and to watch his wild life, he also loved to fish, but he never ate them because he would always let the fish go. Doug will truly be missed by all that knew him.
A funeral service for Doug will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 12 P.M. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 E. Main St., Endicott. The Rev Loren Winn, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Maine, will officiate. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 A.M. until service time at Noon. At the request of the family, casual funeral attire is requested.
