Obituary of Mila G Hurlburt
Mila Hurlburt
Mila Gloria Hurlburt, 100, died peacefully on September 2, 2011 after a brief illness. She grew up in a Scandinavian neighborhood in Brooklyn, and enjoyed many adventures during her lifetime. Despite her quiet demeanor, with her keen perception and dry humor, she often shared fascinating and hilarious stories of her past with those who asked. She was an artistic seamstress and accomplished ballroom dancer who taught dance for over thirty years at her own dance school. After retiring from General Electric, she and her husband enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and the delights of Las Vegas. In spite of her century of good health, she humbly believed that old age was overrated and independence the mainstay of a good life. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Hurlburt in 1993. Gratitude to Visions Trust Department for simplifying the practicalities of life, Elder Care Management Solutions for compassionate advocacy and especially to her caregiver, Ellie Minett, for keeping the simple pleasures always within reach. Appreciation also to the caring staff of United Methodist Homes, particularly during her final days.
Arrangements are by Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., Endicott, New York. At Mila's request there will be no funeral services.
