Obituary of Donald W Brearley
Donald Brearley (1921 - 2011)
Donald William Brearley, 90, of Vestal, passed away peacefully Sunday morning December 18, 2011 at the Ideal Nursing Center. He was born on April 2, 1921 to Floyd and Emma Brearley who predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his brother, Ashley, his sisters, Lillian and Frances, and also a cousin and best friend, Robert Camp. He is survived by his wife Doris with whom he would have celebrated their 70th Anniversary in January, son Alan (Terry), daughters Donna, Laurie (Gary) and seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Franklin (Dorie), brothers-in-law, Gene (Naomi) Hoppes, Walter Hoppes, several nieces and nephews, including a special and faithful nephew, Larry (Jan) Brearley. Donald was an employee of IBM, Endicott, for 42 years, and while there had several inventions patented. He was also a member of its Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed singing in the Men's Glee Club, and was also the MC for the IBM band concerts. He was a lifetime member of the Vestal United Methodist Church where he held and served on many committees through the years.
A celebration of Donald's life will be offered on Wednesday, December 28, at 1:00 PM from the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal. Rev Michael Willis pastor of his Church will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, Tuesday from 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the memorial fund of the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal, NY, 13850 or to the Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad, 324 Myrtle St., Vestal, NY 13850, or to the Ideal Nursing Center 600 High Ave, Endicott, NY, 13760.
