Obituary of Leonard Day
Leonard Day Apalachin: Leonard Bertrand Day, 85, Apalachin, NY, went to rest peacefully on August 25, 2012. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Dorothy (Dottie), with 64 years of loving marriage and companionship. Len and Dottie had the most profound love for each other and were an object of much love and admiration in the family. Len cherished all of his family members. He is survived by his youngest son, David, Largo, FL; oldest son, Gerald and daughter-in-law Cinda, Apalachin, NY; grandchildren, Bryan, Buffalo, NY, Jennifer and her husband Jason Yeager, Floyds Knobs, IN; great-grandson, Charles Lee Yeager, also of Floyds Knobs, IN; and a very close friend of the family, Cheryl Buckley, Apalachin, NY. Len was predeceased by his six other siblings: sisters Florence, Estella, Bertha; and brothers, Francis, Albert and Louis, and is survived by many of their respective nieces and nephews. Leonard retired from IBM after a long career there, and spent some of his time living with his son David in Florida helping him with his contracting business. And if that wasn't enough, he also worked for over 15 years at the Giant grocery store on Rano Boulevard in Vestal, NY. He served his great country in the United States Army doing tours of duty in both World War II and Korea, and did so with much pride. Leonard was a very kind soul and had a passion for many things in life. He enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing, camping with his family at Gilbert Lake State Park and any other time he could spend with his wife and family, no matter what it would be. If you asked Len where he would like to go for a good plate of spaghetti, it would be Little Venice restaurant in Binghamton, which he frequented on many occasions. A very special thank you to all of the dedicated staff members at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford, NY for the love and compassion that they showed to Len while he spent the final weeks of his life residing there. You are all wonderful and have a very special place in our hearts that will last forever.
Family and friends will be welcomed at the home of his wife Dorothy, 38 Holmes Ave., Apalachin, NY on Sunday, September 2nd, from 12:00 - 4:00. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider making a donation in honor of Leonard to SPEAK Animal Sanctuary and Hospital, 351 Flint Road, Binghamton, NY 13905.
