Obituary of Raymond Purdy, Sr.
Raymond D. Purdy, Sr. Vestal: Raymond D. Purdy, 90, of Vestal, went peacefully home to be with his Savior on October 12, 2012. He was predeceased by his wife, Inez Marie (Lyon) Purdy; his parents, John and Evelyn Purdy; five brothers, John, Ivan, Eugene, Runyon and Richard; two sisters, Anna Tucker and Helen Dean. He is survived by his children, Bronwyn (Bridget), Chattanooga, TN, Raymond Jr. "Dusty" (Barbara), Shickshinny, PA, Bonita, Endicott, Beth (Bruce) Russell, Fulton, IN, Barbara Adsit, Endicott, Brenda (Seth) Striley, Brackney, PA, Bernice (Jeffery) Aspling, Little Meadows, PA, Richard, Vestal and Robert, Friendsville, PA; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Esther (Paul) Weimer, AK and Lasca (George) Kisslinger, KY; several nieces and nephews. He loved working in his garden, singing and reciting poetry. He loved his family and we will miss him very much. We are so thankful to Dusty and Barb for giving Dad such wonderful care in their home for the past few weeks. Raymond attended Vestal High School and worked for many years at Endicott Johnson Corp., eventually retiring from Vestal Central Schools. He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII including the battles and campaigns of Bismarck Archipelago, East Indies, New Guinea, Papuan, South Philippines (Liberation) and Luzon. He served his country from December 1941 until his honorable discharge in January 1946. He was a longtime member of South Vestal Baptist Church, Vestal Center.
The family will receive family and friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 17, from noon until 2 p.m. with a service officiated by his son, Rev. Raymond D. (Dusty) Purdy Jr. immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
