Our family first met Rosie J. Conner, affectionately referred to as Mrs C, in the early Fall of 2009. As newlyweds, our son Sean and daughter-in-law Karen, had just moved into the house next door. It didn't take long for them (and us) to realize Mrs C would be more than a kind neighbor, but also an instant friend.
As the years went by, and our family grew, so did our relationship. Mrs C welcomed our three grandchildren with excitement and happiness, sharing her love and affection with each one. As they grew, each would return that affection and recognize Mrs C as a special elder to love and appreciate. Sharing birthdays, holidays, or even simple household visits was something we all enjoyed and looked forward to.
Some of my fondest memories of Mrs C, who was into her 90's then, were when she would come out her back door, handle bag in one hand and later with time, her cane in the other, go down her steps, make her way across the back yards and up onto Sean and Karen's back porch. There she would quietly and carefully place the bag, filled with presents or holiday trinkets for the kids, onto the handle of the back door. And with a grin, looking very pleased with herself that she'd been sneaky enough to place a surprise for the kids to find, she'd turn and make her way back home. I could see and watch her from the kitchen windows but tried to never interrupt her secret missions, unless it seemed my assistance was needed - but it very rarely was. That smile on her face was priceless, and her determination was inspiring.
We're so grateful for the years and times we shared with Mrs C. She was a lovely lady with a spunky personality, a twinkle in her eyes, a contagious smile, and a warm and giving heart. She will truly be missed, and will always be lovingly remembered.
