Recently I retired from the Ideal nursing facility in Endicott NY. Last night I attended a congratulatory dinner and one discussion at the table was of the very first resident you cared for when you started the profession. I remember this person very clearly... it was Teresa..I was new in the CNA profession. I remember Teresa would thank me each and every time I gave her a spoonful of food. She would thank me when I propped up her pillow, raised or lowered her blanket, turned on her music (yes she loved her music), etc.. She had a big influence on me.. I was going to work 2 years until I hit early retirement then retire. Taking care of Teresa and two other residents on the floor changed me.. I worked over 13 years and enjoyed every minute because of Teresa and a few other residents like her.
